Implications

In time all Emergency Services, both full time and volunteers will need to maintain registers of an individuals skills and qualifications that operate within their agency / organisation if they are to maintain community confidence in their abilities to respond to emergency and disaster situations.


Updates

2002 – completion of the Diploma of e-learning – University of Technology – Sydney 2002 – $20,000 Emergency Services Levy Grant to deploy the FLL research program 2003 – deployment of the on-line “Introduction to Community Risk Management” for the Office of Volunteers – recognised as a State training resource by the Premier of SA

2003 - 2004 development and validation of the Recognition of Current Competency program for Swinburne University – Emergency Services Training Initiative Unit utilising the FLL research.

2005 - first valdation graduate of the Advanced Diploma of Public Safety - Emergency Management - a progam that effectively applied the research strategies of the FLL project into a national training and accreditation program.

2005 - extension of the Lakeland College FLL visit and Advanced Diploma of Public Safety program in the implementation of the Applied Degree in Business Administration - Emergency Services to an international award using the combined flexible learning strategies of Lakeland College and the FLL research project.


Professional Development Goal

To enhance my skills in e-learning technologies in the development of appropriate VET programs for delivery by government and non-government RTO's to emergency service volunteers, government agencies and similar geographically dispersed organisations.


Strategies

  • Further develop technical skills in e-learning through participating in the University of Technology - Sydney Certificate IV in e-learning
  • An overseas research to review 'The Learning Manager'; and 'WebCT'; which are platforms used by Alberta Fire Training School in the delivery of accredited emergency services 'on-line' training
  • Validation of the technical and management skills gained in e-learning through the deployment of a functioning platform as a part of the Diploma of e-learning - University of Technology - Sydney
